A very special place
The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Park Street, Devizes, dates from the Norman times and is one of the most important buildings in the town, with the church tower a particular landmark.
The building is listed Grade I, putting it amongst the top 2.5% of listed buildings in the country. The St.Mary Devizes Trust is working hard to turn this wonderful building into an arts and community space that will become a hub for future generations.

Jargon Buster
The church, like many organisations uses abbreviations and terms that can baffle the outsider. We hope these explanations will help you understand the content of our site more fully. If you have any questions contact us.
DAC = Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) – Diocese of Salisbury
PCC = Parochial Church Council
Quinquennial Report = The results of an inspection, held every five years, to make sure the church building is kept in good repair.
Zero Carbon = We will outline how we hope to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions within the scope of our project.
StMFG = St Mary’s Future Group. A committee taking the project forward on behalf of the Parish
SPAB = Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. A national body doing what it says
CBC = Church Buildings Council. Works with and advises Anglican churches and dioceses on care, conservation and development of church buildings.
AMS = Ancient Monuments Society. is concerned with the study and conservation of ancient monuments, historic buildings and fine old craftsmanship.
HE = Historic England. Tasked with protecting the historic environment of England by preserving and listing historic buildings and scheduled ancient monuments
